Description
While on a trip to Castillo Chianti in Tuscany with his wife, Michael was inspired by the view from the balcony. Although there’s nothing more beautiful than a wheat field full of red poppies, he decided to paint a still life of the poppies in a vase on the balcony wall, rather than use the obvious backdrop of the fields.
He thought the blue-green colour of the Mediterranean Sea would give the work a more harmonious feel, as it complements the colour of both the poppies and the balcony wall.
Michael’s other still life works on the website are Spanish Wildflowers and Violets in a Crystal Glass. While the European collection also includes Summer Shade – Costa d’en Blanes, Mallorca, Echoes of Greece, Place du Tertre and Houseboats on the Seine.
