Description

While on a trip to Castillo Chianti in Tuscany with his wife, Michael was inspired by the view from the balcony. Although there’s nothing more beautiful than a wheat field full of red poppies, he decided to paint a still life of the poppies in a vase on the balcony wall, rather than use the obvious backdrop of the fields.

He thought the blue-green colour of the Mediterranean Sea would give the work a more harmonious feel, as it complements the colour of both the poppies and the balcony wall.

Michael’s other still life works on the website are Poppies in Vase, Spanish Wildflowers and Violets in a Crystal Glass. While the European collection also includes Summer Shade – Costa d’en Blanes, Mallorca, Echoes of Greece, Place du Tertre and Houseboats on the Seine.
