Description
Michael painted this scene in early summer, as can be seen by the bright green of the hills and calm waters of the Clyde. A couple of miles from the Pencil Monument, it captures the small walkway and sweeping shoreline, which leads the eye. With the hills in the background leading you down the Clyde.
The dark coloured sand in the foreground provides contrast to the green-blue water and sky. While the low horizon line increases the expanse of the sky and the figures add scale. Finally, the marker post on the left-hand side of the composition breaks the line of the distant hill and provides depth to the work.
Other local scenes are Wemyss Bay Station and Paddle Steamer Waverley. Additional coastal scenes you may be interested in are Lodge on the Loch, Luskentyre Beach and Albacores – RWSABC.
