Description
On a calm summer evening Michael went for a stroll along the esplanade in Greenock. By chance he came across the albacore scene, with the boats setting out on an evening sail to take advantage of the moderate breeze. The angle from the wall of the esplanade gave an elevated view, with a high horizon line which lent to extended reflections and individualising the boats.
The shore line leads the eye into the picture with strong sunlight coming from the left – creating long shadows in the sand. The mid-blue water in the foreground provides depth, and the varying sizes of boat sails help lead the eye to the background of the River Clyde, with Strone Point bathed in sunlight. The light summer hues capturing the scene.
Another local coastal scene you may be interested in is Ashton Shore in Gourock. While other Greenock works include QE2 – 40th Anniversary Cruise and Tugs and Snow Clouds.
