Description
Water has a calming effect and Michael always looks towards the River Clyde to see what he can capture. In this case it was the view towards Gourock town centre from the shore line. As luck would have it, the tallest yacht on the Clyde – The Drum – was anchored in the bay, which helped to provide the work with a little extra interest.
The rocks on the left foreground had to be reduced in size to balance the composition, so Michael used a little artistic license. The large rock on the bottom left leads your eye into the painting, while the yellow-green colours of the rocks complement the pale blue water and summer sky. The spire of St John’s church provides a focal point above Gourock town.
Another Gourock coastal scene you may be interested in is Cardwell Bay, while Albacores – RWSABC depicts the coast of Greenock.
