Description

This West-facing view from Ponte dell’Accademia (Accademia Bridge) on the Grand Canal in Venice looks down upon one of the many gondola and water taxi stops. This is where the gondoliers and drivers stop for service and refreshments. The couple standing in the foreground catch the eye, with the man’s colourful t-shirt and hat adding a splash of colour.

The foliage of the trees supply a softness to the nearby buildings, while the gondola adds scale to the work. Finally, the contrast of the orange fencing against the lagoon adds to the overall composition.

This is one of four works in Michael’s Echoes of Venice series, with the other three being San Marco, Grand Canal and A Day in the life – San Marco.
