Description
Finlaystone Country Park in Langbank is a privately owned estate, and a day trip with the family to an art and craft fair led to this painting. The view of the main forecourt was from the stables, and offered various points of interest for the composition.
The main forecourt was decked out in colourful bunting, with the strongly sunlit cobbles leading the eye into the painting. The figures provide scale and movement as they browse the fair. A detail easily missed is the swallow’s nest in the eaves overhead, which you tend to find in country dwellings. The stalls added an extra dimension to the work, with the artwork rounded off by the pine trees silhouetted against sunlit clouds.
Another view looking out from Langbank is Low tide – Clyde Coast. While similar compositions you may be interested in are Place du Tertre and Echoes of Greece.
