Description
A large expanse of water gives the painting depth, while the destination of Millport in the middle distance and Arran mountains in the background add to the locality of the scene.
The natural colours of early evening lend themselves to the subdued yellow tones present in the Clyde, which complement the black and white colours of the Waverley, as well as its red funnels. In addition, the smoke from the funnels and wash from the paddles convey both the speed and movement of the steamer on a beautiful summer evening.
Others works which include Paddle Steamer Waverley are Wemyss Bay Station and Past and Present – Glasgow Harbour.
