Description

These Clyde Shipping Tugs were painted at Victoria Harbour in Greenock. In their day they were extremely busy but are sadly no longer in service. The work shows The Flying Duck and Flying Falcon tugboats from across the harbour.

Michael has painted those tugs more than any other. He loves their strength and rich colour as can be seen in the painting. In the background is a Clyde Puffer ship – another workhorse. In addition, the backdrop includes Scott’s shipyard and clock tower which kept the workers in check. Now, just a memory of days gone by.

The work holds strong nostalgic value and reminds Michael of friends from the past and the area in which he grew up. He’s continually on the look out for new subject matters, but few will ever hold the same meaning.

Other tugboat works you may be interested in are Tugs and Snow Clouds and East India Harbour. While Tall Ships – Victoria Harbour is set in the same location, and Custom House Quay – Greenock also showcases days gone by.
