Michael loves painting tigers due to the bright shades of orange, mixed with the harmony of the black stripes and white markings on their face and underbody.
In order to give depth to this tiger study, the idea was to paint the black stripes on the tiger’s head with a much deeper black tint than the body, and therefore give the illusion of recession. The same principle applied with the strength of orange used on the head, compared to a more yellowish tone on the body. In addition, the white was more opaque on the head.
The background colours feature cool hues of greens and blues in contrast with the natural rich colour of the tiger.
The tiger is the largest cat species and third largest land carnivore – truly a majestic animal. The Bengal tiger is the national animal of both India and Bangladesh.
