Low tide – Clyde Coast

£2.50£45.00

This Scottish coastal scene looking south from Langbank, depicts the Clyde coast set against the backdrop of Dumbarton Rock.

The giclée prints come with a certificate of authenticity signed by Michael and the fine art cards come in A6 size.

Description

Michael had first taken in this scene when driving down the M8 outside Langbank. It was a sunny afternoon with a low tide and the light was perfect. The inclusion of Dumbarton Rock is reminiscent of his painting of Royal Yacht Britannia passing the rock. From that vantage point you can see straight down the coast to Strone Point.

On the left are remnants of the stocks the boat builders used for curing wood in the salt water for their wooden hull ships in the nearby shipyard. The sandbanks and the line of buoys help lead the eye down the coast, with Cardross in the middle distance – a landmark on the River Clyde. The bluish haze in the distant hills give more depth to the painting.
