Description
Wemyss Bay Station is one of the main terminals on the River Clyde for both ferries and trains. The idea was to paint the station from a higher vantage point. The road to the caravan park was ideal for this, as you could see the great detail of the glass roof – the station’s main feature. The terracotta tiled roof adding colour and offering a nice contrast to the pale blue water.
The trees in the foreground added to the composition. An elevated angle always give a high horizon line which Michael decided to fade out, so your eye would rest on the main subject of the station. Finally, Paddle Steamer Waverley was just leaving its berth which added an extra dimension to the work.
One of Michael’s works, Largs Bay is approximately seven miles further down the coast from Wemyss Bay.
