Description
The idea for the composition was to show a wide expanse of landscape to give a feeling of distance between holes. Michael decided on the 10th hole because of the great view across the River Clyde – taking advantage of the Gourock weather.
The pathway on the left leads the eye into the painting, with the sloping line leading you to the golfers in the middle and therefore retaining your focus. The trees in the middle distance prevent the eye from wandering outside the composition, while the rough in the foreground holds your attention.
The mixture of greens and yellows provides a nice harmony with the white clouds rolling across the blue sky. Just watch out for flying golf balls.
Another Gourock landscape you may be interested in is Autumn View – Darroch Park. While another sporting scene is Ardgowan Bowling Club.
